The king of Assyria deported the Israelites to Assyria and put them in Halah, along the Habor (Gozan’s river), and in the cities of the Medes,


because they did not listen to the Lord their God but violated his covenant #– #all he had commanded Moses the servant of the Lord. They did not listen, and they did not obey.


to keep the poor from getting a fair trial and to deprive the needy among my people of justice, so that widows can be their spoil and they can plunder the fatherless.


those who, with their speech, accuse a person of wrongdoing, who set a trap for the one mediating at the city gate and without cause deprive the righteous of justice.


‘ “Now look, I clap my hands together against the dishonest profit you have made  and against the blood shed among you.


They cast lots for my people; they bartered a boy for a prostitute and sold a girl for wine to drink.


You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks  to remove them far from their own territory.


Those who buy them slaughter them but are not punished.  Those who sell them say, “Blessed be the Lord because I have become rich!” Even their own shepherds have no compassion for them.
