A wicked man’s iniquities will trap him; he will become tangled in the ropes of his own sin.
So now, do not scoff, or your shackles will become stronger. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord God of Armies a decree of destruction for the whole land.
Isn’t this the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke?
Your way and your actions have brought this on you. This is your punishment. It is very bitter, because it has reached your heart!
Therefore, this is what the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘I am about to feed this people wormwood and give them poisonous water to drink.
Remember my affliction and my homelessness, the wormwood and the poison.
He has laid siege against me, encircling me with bitterness and hardship.
Jesus responded, ‘Truly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.
Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice.
For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.
Make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and defiling many.
They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.
For if God didn’t spare the angels who sinned but cast them into hell , and delivered them in chains of utter darkness to be kept for judgement;
