This is what the king says: “Don’t let Hezekiah deceive  you; he can’t rescue you from my power.


He sent Eliakim, who was in charge of the palace, Shebna the court secretary,  and the leading priests, who were covered with sackcloth,  to the prophet Isaiah  son of Amoz.


Perhaps the Lord your God  will hear  all the words of the royal spokesman, whom his master the king of Assyria sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke  him for the words that the Lord your God has heard. Therefore, offer a prayer for the surviving remnant.” ’


‘Will I bring a baby to the point of birth and not deliver it? ’ says the Lord; ‘or will I who deliver, close the womb? ’ says your God.


Labour pains come on him. He is not a wise son; when the time comes, he will not be born.  ,


I will depart and return to my place until they recognise their guilt and seek my face; they will search for me in their distress.
