Ahijah,  who was wearing an ephod,  was also there. He was the son of Ahitub, the brother of Ichabod  son of Phinehas, son of Eli the Lord’s priest at Shiloh.  But the troops did not know that Jonathan had left.

This man would go up from his town every year  to worship and to sacrifice  to the Lord of Armies at Shiloh,  where Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were the Lord’s priests.


Saul said, ‘Let’s go down after the Philistines tonight and plunder them until morning. Don’t let even one remain! ’ ‘Do whatever you want,’ the troops replied. But the priest  said, ‘Let’s approach God here.’


Samuel served in the Lord’s presence   #– #this mere boy was dressed in the linen ephod.


Out of all the tribes of Israel, I chose your house  to be my priests, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence.  I also gave your forefather’s family all the Israelite food offerings.


However, one of the sons of Ahimelech son of Ahitub escaped. His name was Abiathar,  and he fled to David.


She named the boy Ichabod,  saying, ‘The glory has departed from Israel,’  referring to the capture of the ark of God  and to the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.


So the people sent men to Shiloh to bring back the ark of the covenant of the Lord of Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim.  Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
