Now Elijah  the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers,  , said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord God of Israel lives,  in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command! ’


As the Lord your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent someone to search for you. When they said, “He is not here,” he made that kingdom or nation swear they had not found you.


Then Elijah said, ‘As the Lord of Armies lives,  in whose presence I stand, today I will present myself to Ahab.’


The messenger  who went to call Micaiah instructed him, ‘Look, the words of the prophets are unanimously favourable for the king. So let your words be like theirs, and speak favourably.’


The prophet who has only a dream should recount the dream, but the one who has my word should speak my word truthfully, for what is straw compared to grain? ’ #– #this is the Lord’s declaration.


So the prophet Jeremiah related all these words to King Zedekiah of Judah in Jerusalem


So the prophet Jeremiah said to them, ‘I have heard. I will now pray to the Lord your God according to your words, and I will tell you every word that the Lord answers you; I won’t withhold a word from you.’


But Balaam responded to the servants of Balak, ‘If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the command of the Lord my God to do anything small or great.


Balaam said to him, ‘Look, I have come to you, but can I say anything I want? I must speak only the message God puts in my mouth.’


He said to them, ‘Spend the night here, and I will give you the answer the Lord tells me.’ So the officials of Moab stayed with Balaam.


If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the Lord’s command, to do anything good or bad of my own will? I will say whatever the Lord says.


For we do not market the word of God  for profit like so many.  On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.


Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting  deceitfully or distorting the word of God,  but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.


For am I now trying to persuade people,  or God?  Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
