And God saw that the earth was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon the earth.


The king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here; even the blind and the lame will turn you back,” thinking, “David cannot come in here.”


Then a certain prophet came up to King Ahab of Israel and said, “Thus says the Lord: Have you seen all this great multitude? Look, I will give it into your hand today, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”


He gives them security, and they are supported; his eyes are upon their ways.


“Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy groan, I will now rise up,” says the Lord; “I will place them in the safety for which they long.”


For I was envious of the arrogant; I saw the prosperity of the wicked.


Such is the end of all who are greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its possessors.


For the wise the path of life leads upward, in order to avoid Sheol below.


who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,


those whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.


Do not envy the wicked, nor desire to be with them,


Woe to those who make iniquitous decrees, who write oppressive statutes,


O Lord, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be ashamed. Let the fire for your adversaries consume them.


Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement; when the overwhelming scourge passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;


So he poured upon him the heat of his anger and the fury of war; it set him on fire all around, but he did not understand; it burned him, but he did not take it to heart.


whose feasts consist of lyre and harp, tambourine and flute and wine, but who do not regard the deeds of the Lord or see the work of his hands!


Those who are wise understand these things; those who are discerning know them. For the ways of the Lord are right, and the upright walk in them, but transgressors stumble in them.


They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah; he will remember their iniquity; he will punish their sins.


ruin and misery are in their paths,


They went out into the field and gathered the grapes from their vineyards, trod them, and celebrated. Then they went into the temple of their god, ate and drank, and ridiculed Abimelech.


Then Zebul said to him, “Where is your boast now, you who said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Are not these the troops you made light of? Go out now and fight with them.”
