Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build,

Now at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with rejoicing, with thanksgivings and with singing, with cymbals, harps, and lyres.

They offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children also rejoiced. The joy of Jerusalem was heard far away.

So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days.

They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

“Micah of Moresheth, who prophesied during the days of King Hezekiah of Judah, said to all the people of Judah: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Zion shall be plowed as a field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins and the mountain of the house a wooded height.’

On that day the Lord will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, at their head.

For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel. “These seven are the eyes of the Lord that range through the whole earth.”

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
