The Lord said: Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me and their worship of me is a human commandment learned by rote,


You have said, “It is vain to serve God. What do we profit by keeping his command or by going about as mourners before the Lord of hosts?

“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.


and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is in vain and your faith is in vain.


Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.


You must diligently observe everything that I command you; do not add to it or take anything from it.


All these regulations refer to things that perish with use; they are simply human commands and teachings.


But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.


If any think they are religious and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless.


Do you want to be shown, you senseless person, that faith apart from works is worthless?


I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book;


and do not turn aside after useless things that cannot profit or save, for they are useless.
