My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me continually, “Where is your God?”

Therefore I weep as Jazer weeps for the vines of Sibmah; I drench you with my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh, for the shout over your fruit harvest and your grain harvest has ceased.


Therefore I said: “Look away from me; let me weep bitter tears; do not try to comfort me for the destruction of my beloved people.”


But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears because the Lord’s flock has been taken captive.


You shall say to them this word: Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is struck down with a crushing blow, with a very grievous wound.


Yet for all this her false sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart but only in pretense, says the Lord.


My anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain! Oh, the walls of my heart! My heart is beating wildly; I cannot keep silent, for I hear the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.


How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me and have sworn by those who are no gods. When I fed them to the full, they committed adultery and trooped to the houses of prostitutes.


O daughter of my people, put on sackcloth and roll in ashes; make mourning as for an only child, most bitter lamentation, for suddenly the destroyer will come upon us.


My joy is gone; grief is upon me; my heart is sick.


let them quickly raise a dirge over us, so that our eyes may run down with tears and our eyelids flow with water.


My eyes are spent with weeping; my stomach churns; my bile is poured out on the ground because of the destruction of my people, because infants and babes faint in the streets of the city.


In you, they take bribes to shed blood; you take both advance interest and accrued interest and make gain of your neighbors by extortion, and you have forgotten me, says the Lord God.


They are all adulterers; they are like a heated oven whose baker does not need to stir the fire from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.
