The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse— who can understand it?

For out of the heart come evil intentions, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.

You are from your father the devil, and you choose to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.

For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.

For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law—indeed, it cannot,

For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want.

Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).

Have nothing to do with stupid and senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another.

But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

But one is tempted by one’s own desire, being lured and enticed by it;

You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.

Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance.

Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh that wage war against the soul.

For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with debased desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error.

First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts
