How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?


How long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealous wrath burn like fire?


Turn, O Lord! How long? Have compassion on your servants!

Your country lies desolate; your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence aliens devour your land; it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.


I will make mortals more rare than fine gold and humans than the gold of Ophir.

For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence.

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus


The Lord of hosts has sworn in my hearing: Surely many houses shall be desolate, large and beautiful houses, without inhabitant.


Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you majestic forever, a joy from age to age.


Your holy cities have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.


For thus says the Lord concerning the house of the king of Judah: You are like Gilead to me, like the summit of Lebanon, but I swear that I will make you a desert, uninhabited cities.


A lion has gone up from its thicket; a destroyer of nations has set out; he has gone out from his place to make your land a waste; your cities will be ruins without inhabitant.


Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You yourselves have seen all the disaster that I have brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah. Look at them; today they are a desolation, without an inhabitant in them,


And the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah went into exile out of its land.


Wherever you live, your towns shall be waste and your high places ruined, so that your altars will be waste and ruined, your idols broken and destroyed, your incense stands cut down, and your works wiped out.


Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one who spoke, “For how long is this vision concerning the regular burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled?”


I will lay your cities waste, will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your pleasing odors.


And you I will scatter among the nations, and I will unsheathe the sword against you; your land shall be a desolation and your cities a waste.


On that day they shall take up a taunt song against you and wail with bitter lamentation and say, “We are utterly ruined; the Lord alters the inheritance of my people; how he removes it from me! Among our captors he parcels out our fields.”


and I will cut off the cities of your land and destroy all your strongholds;


Therefore I have begun to strike you down, making you desolate because of your sins.


But the earth will be desolate because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their doings.


Although once you were as numerous as the stars in heaven, you shall be left few in number because you did not obey the Lord your God.


And just as the Lord took delight in making you prosperous and numerous, so the Lord will take delight in bringing you to ruin and destruction; you shall be plucked off the land that you are entering to possess.
