They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.


from mortals—by your hand, O Lord— from mortals whose portion in life is in this world. May their bellies be filled with what you have stored up for them; may their children have more than enough; may they leave something over to their little ones.


You conceive chaff; you bring forth stubble; wind like a fire will consume you.

No one brings suit justly; no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas; they speak lies, conceiving mischief and bearing iniquity.


The pangs of childbirth come for him, but he is an unwise son, for at the proper time he does not present himself at the mouth of the womb.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil.


We know that we are God’s children and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one.


But Saul said, “No one shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has brought deliverance to Israel.”


Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has accomplished this great victory in Israel? Far from it! As the Lord lives, not one hair of his head shall fall to the ground, for he has worked with God today.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, and he did not die.
