Understand, O dullest of the people; fools, when will you be wise?


The evil do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely.


Go to the ant, you lazybones; consider its ways and be wise.


When its boughs are dry, they are broken; women come and make a fire of them. For this is a people without understanding; therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them; he who formed them will show them no favor.


He sees many things, but he does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.


They do not know, nor do they comprehend, for their eyes are shut, so that they cannot see, and their minds as well, so that they cannot understand.


whose feasts consist of lyre and harp, tambourine and flute and wine, but who do not regard the deeds of the Lord or see the work of his hands!


Therefore my people go into exile for lack of knowledge; their nobles are dying of hunger, and their multitude is parched with thirst.


The dogs have a mighty appetite; they never have enough. The shepherds also have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, to their own gain, one and all.


Everyone is stupid and without knowledge; goldsmiths are all put to shame by their idols, for their images are false, and there is no breath in them.


They are both stupid and foolish; the instruction given by idols is no better than wood!


The descendants of Jonadab son of Rechab have carried out the command that their ancestor gave them, but this people has not obeyed me.


“For my people are foolish; they do not know me; they are stupid children; they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil but do not know how to do good.”


My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains; from mountain to hill they have gone, they have forgotten their fold.


Even the stork in the heavens knows its times, and the turtledove, swallow, and crane observe the time of their coming, but my people do not know the ordinance of the Lord.


How sick is your heart, says the Lord God, that you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute,


“All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice. So the curse and the oath written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out upon us because we have sinned against you.


She did not know that it was I who gave her the grain, the wine, and the oil and who lavished upon her silver and gold that they used for Baal.


When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path.


And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to an unfit mind and to do things that should not be done.


They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,
