21 They said to one another, “Alas, we are paying the penalty for what we did to our brother; we saw his anguish when he pleaded with us, but we would not listen. That is why this anguish has come upon us.”

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph. Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, so dismayed were they at his presence.


Realizing that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers said, “What if Joseph still bears a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong that we did to him?”


David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Nathan said to David, “Now the Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die.


She then said to Elijah, “What have you against me, O man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to remembrance and to cause the death of my son!”


If you close your ear to the cry of the poor, you will cry out and not be heard.


If someone is burdened with the blood of another, let that killer be a fugitive until death; let no one offer assistance.


Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God, while he led you in the way?


Your wickedness will punish you, and your faithlessness will convict you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, says the Lord God of hosts.


Therefore, thus says the Lord: You have not obeyed me by granting a release to your neighbors and friends; I am going to grant a release to you, says the Lord—a release to the sword, to pestilence, and to famine. I will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.


Your ways and your doings have brought this upon you. This is your doom; how bitter it is! It has reached your very heart.”


I will return again to my place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face. In their distress they will beg my favor:


But if you do not do this, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.


For the judgment you give will be the judgment you get, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.


where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.


for I have five brothers—that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment.’


Also many of those who became believers confessed and disclosed their practices.


For judgment will be without mercy to anyone who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.


If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.


Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has paid me back.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
