My child, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.


My child, do not let these escape from your sight: keep sound wisdom and prudence,


My child, keep my words and store up my commandments with you;


The living, the living, they thank you, as I do this day; fathers make known to children your faithfulness.


He sees many things, but he does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear.


Thus says the Lord: For the sake of your lives, take care that you do not bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem.


So pay attention to how you listen, for to those who have, more will be given, and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away.”


And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.


Teach them to your children, talking about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise up.


“These are the statutes and ordinances that you must diligently observe in the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you to occupy all the days that you live on the earth.


You must not eat with it anything leavened. For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it—the bread of affliction—because you came out of the land of Egypt in great haste, so that all the days of your life you may remember the day of your departure from the land of Egypt.


It shall remain with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, diligently observing all the words of this law and these statutes,


The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and to our children forever, to observe all the words of this law.


Now, therefore, write this song, and teach it to the Israelites; put it in their mouths, in order that this song may be a witness for me against the Israelites.


he said to them, “Take to heart all the words that I am giving in witness against you today; give them as a command to your children, so that they may diligently observe all the words of this law.


how you once stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when the Lord said to me, ‘Assemble the people for me, and I will let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me as long as they live on the earth and may teach their children so’;


“Since you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire, watch yourselves closely,


So be careful, lest you forget the covenant that the Lord your God made with you and make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything that the Lord your God has forbidden you.


take care that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.


so that you and your children and your children’s children may fear the Lord your God all the days of your life and keep all his decrees and his commandments that I am commanding you, so that your days may be long.


“When your children ask you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the decrees and the statutes and the ordinances that the Lord our God has commanded you?’


Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.


“Take care that you do not forget the Lord your God by failing to keep his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes that I am commanding you today.


then do not exalt yourself, forgetting the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,


Therefore we must pay greater attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.


how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was declared at first through the Lord, and it was confirmed for us by those who heard him,


You see that faith was active along with his works, and by works faith was brought to completion.


Whoever rebels against your orders and disobeys your words, whatever you command, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”


Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God.


saying to the Israelites, “When your children ask their parents in time to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’


Remember, then, what you received and heard; obey it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.


The Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, forgetting the Lord their God and serving the Baals and the Asherahs.


The Israelites did not remember the Lord their God, who had rescued them from the hand of all their enemies on every side,
