When he turned around and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two she-bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.


David was afraid of God that day; he said, “How can I bring the ark of God into my care?”


Because you did not carry it the first time, the Lord our God burst out against us because we did not give it proper care.”


My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.


Then everyone will fear; they will tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done.


Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: Because you have spoken this word, I am now making my words in your mouth a fire and this people wood, and the fire shall devour them.


Now, while I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell down on my face, cried with a loud voice, and said, “Ah Lord God! You are finishing off the remnant of Israel!”


Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord meant when he said, ‘Through those who are near me I will show myself holy, and before all the people I will be glorified.’ ” And Aaron was silent.


And now listen—the hand of the Lord is against you, and you will be blind for a while, unable to see the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he fumbled about for someone to lead him by the hand.


Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.


None of the rest dared to join them, but the people held them in high esteem.


What would you prefer? Am I to come to you with a stick or with love in a spirit of gentleness?


So I write these things while I am away from you, so that when I come I may not have to be severe in using the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.


I warned those who sinned previously and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not be lenient—


For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves guiltless in the matter.


Then all Israel shall hear and be afraid and never again do any such wickedness.


Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. So you shall purge the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear and be afraid.


Did not Achan son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity!”


At that moment there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.


And if anyone wants to harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes; anyone who wants to harm them must be killed in this manner.
