4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!”

I know, my God, that you search the heart and take pleasure in uprightness; in the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here offering freely and joyously to you.


Moreover, in addition to all that I have provided for the holy house, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, and because of my devotion to the house of my God I give it to the house of my God:


and for all the work to be done by artisans, gold for the things of gold and silver for the things of silver. Who then will offer willingly, consecrating themselves today to the Lord?”


Then the people rejoiced because these had given willingly, for with single mind they had offered freely to the Lord; King David also rejoiced greatly.


They conceive mischief and bring forth evil, and their belly prepares deceit.”


Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely.


See how they conceive evil and are pregnant with mischief and bring forth lies.


And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening and your fill of bread in the morning, because the Lord has heard the complaining that you utter against him—what are we? Your complaining is not against us but against the Lord.”


All the Israelite men and women whose hearts made them willing to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord.


It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not fulfill it.


No one brings suit justly; no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas; they speak lies, conceiving mischief and bearing iniquity.


Thus says the Lord God: On that day thoughts will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil scheme.


Therefore you and all your congregation have gathered together against the Lord. What is Aaron that you rail against him?”


“Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”


“Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land?


Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”


“Food will not bring us close to God.” We are no worse off if we do not eat and no better off if we do.


Therefore whoever rejects this rejects not human authority but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.

then, when desire has conceived, it engenders sin, and sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death.
