David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.


By you I can outrun a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.


I beat them fine like the dust of the earth; I crushed them and stamped them down like the mire of the streets.


Now these are the last words of David: The oracle of David, son of Jesse, the oracle of the man whom God exalted, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the favorite of the Strong One of Israel:

You bestow on him blessings forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence.


I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.

So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land.


David had success in all his undertakings, for the Lord was with him.


Then the commanders of the Philistines came out to battle, and as often as they came out, David had more success than all the servants of Saul, so that his fame became very great.


He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them he has set the world.


So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together on the same day.


So they sent the ark of the God of Israel to Ekron. But when the ark of God came to Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “Why have they brought around to us the ark of the God of Israel to kill us and our people?”
