“Oh, I know your thoughts and your schemes to wrong me.


All your commandments are enduring; I am persecuted without cause; help me!


Do not let my treacherous enemies rejoice over me or those who hate me without cause wink the eye.


Those who are my foes without cause are mighty, and many are those who hate me wrongfully.


More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; many are those who would destroy me, my enemies who accuse me falsely. What I did not steal, must I now restore?


“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.


But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.


When he came and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast devotion,


Therefore one must be subject, not only because of wrath but also because of conscience.


But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I but the grace of God that is with me.


Indeed, this is our boast, the testimony of our conscience: we have behaved in the world with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God—and all the more toward you.


We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that has been granted to the churches of Macedonia,


and for this reason I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.


Otherwise, would they not have ceased being offered, since the worshipers, cleansed once for all, would no longer have any consciousness of sin?


If you endure when you are beaten for doing wrong, what credit is that? But if you endure when you do good and suffer for it, this is a commendable thing before God.


But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, a criminal, or even as a mischief maker.
