These were the divisions of the gatekeepers among the Korahites and the sons of Merari.


They were jealous of Moses in the camp and of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.


The people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”


Now when the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, the Lord heard it, and his anger was kindled. Then the fire of the Lord burned against them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.


Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, but they said, “We will not come!


They assembled against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! All the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. So why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?”


“Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”


Very truly, I tell you, whoever receives one whom I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.”


While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!”


Therefore whoever resists authority resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.


And do not complain, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.


What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each.


These are grumblers and malcontents; they indulge their lusts; their mouths utter bombastic nonsense, flattering people to their own advantage.
