We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up. But God will not take away a life; he will devise plans so as not to keep an outcast banished forever from his presence.

Then you will not be afraid of sudden panic or of the storm that strikes the wicked,

Do not be fainthearted or fearful at the rumors heard in the land— one year one rumor comes, the next year another, rumors of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.


Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things are bound to come, but woe to the one through whom they come!


When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him,


Many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray.


For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.


“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.


Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
