because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the Lord.
to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die,
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and his anointed, saying,

“Here is my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the gentiles.
He will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick until he brings justice to victory.
the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”
and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:
Then he looked up at his disciples and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight; the lame walk; those with a skin disease are cleansed; the deaf hear; the dead are raised; the poor have good news brought to them.
He first found his brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Anointed).
I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.
He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers have gathered together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’
“For in this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,
He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son,
Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
