The vine withers; the fig tree droops. Pomegranate, palm, and apple— all the trees of the field are dried up; surely, joy withers away among the people.

Joy and gladness are taken away from the fruitful field, and in the vineyards no exultation is heard; no shouts are raised; no treader treads out wine in the presses; the vintage shout is hushed.


There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine; all joy has reached its eventide; the gladness of the earth is banished.


The wine dries up; the vine languishes; all the merry-hearted sigh.


You have multiplied exultation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder.


Listen! A cry goes up from Horonaim: “Desolation and great destruction!”


Gladness and joy have been taken away from the fruitful land of Moab; I have stopped the wine from the winepresses; no one treads them with shouts of joy; the shouting is not the shout of joy.


The fields are devastated, the ground mourns, for the grain is destroyed, the wine dries up, the oil fails.


Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?


But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the bush, so that it withered.


Is there any seed left in the barn? Do the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree still yield nothing? From this day on I will bless you.”


I will rebuke the locust for you, so that it will not destroy the produce of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not be barren, says the Lord of hosts.


And they came to the Wadi Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them. They also brought some pomegranates and figs.
