The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar.


Now the whole earth had one language and the same words.


Therefore it was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth, and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.


So Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward, and they separated from each other.


In the days of King Amraphel of Shinar, King Arioch of Ellasar, King Chedorlaomer of Elam, and King Tidal of Goiim,


On that day the Lord will again raise his hand to recover the remnant that is left of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.


The Lord gave King Jehoiakim of Judah into his power, as well as some of the vessels of the house of God. These he brought to the land of Shinar, and he placed the vessels in the treasury of his gods.


He said to me, “To the land of Shinar, to build a house for it, and when this is prepared, they will set it down there on its base.”
