But Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, had taken Ishbaal son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.


Now then bring it about, for the Lord has promised David: Through my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from all their enemies.”


So may God do to Abner and so may he add to it! For just what the Lord has sworn to David, that will I accomplish for him:

Human wrath serves only to praise you, when you bind the last bit of your wrath around you.


“Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!


You shall not bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a dog into the house of the Lord your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are abhorrent to the Lord your God.


And Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this very day and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.


The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
