God, how much longer will you let this go on and allow these barbarians to blaspheme your name? Will you stand back and watch them get away with this forever?

How much longer, O  Yahweh, must we endure this? Does your anger have no end? Will your jealousy burn like a raging fire?

Return to us again, O God! How much longer will it take until you show us your abundant compassion?

How much longer will you sit back and watch the wicked triumph in their evil, boasting in all that is wrong?

Your country is devastated and your cities burned to the ground; foreigners plunder your crops before your eyes— with nothing but devastation and destruction in their wake!

I will make a person scarcer than fine gold and people rarer than a wedge of gold from Ophir.

Cries of mourning will be heard at the city gates; with the anguish of such great loss, she will sit down and grieve in the dirt.

“Although once you were rejected and despised, undesirable for anyone to pass through you, I will make you majestic forever, a source of joy for every generation.

Your sacred cities are abandoned like a desert; Zion is a wasteland; Jerusalem sits in ruins.

Yes, listen to what Yahweh thinks about Judah’s royal palace: “You are as glorious as Gilead to me, as beautiful as the summit of Lebanon; but I swear that I will make you as empty as a desert— like a ghost town.

A nation-wrecker is on the prowl like a lion coming up from his lair. He is roused from his den to ransack your land. Your cities will be ruined and left without inhabitant.

“Yahweh, God of Israel, Commander of Angel Armies, says this: You have seen with your own eyes all the disaster I have brought upon Jerusalem and all the towns of Judah. Look at them; now they are in ruins and left uninhabited.

At Riblah, in the territory of Hamath, the king of Babylon had them executed. And so, the people of Judah were taken into exile.

Wherever you live, your cities will be ruined and your shrines deserted. All your altars will be destroyed and desecrated, and your idols shall be broken and banished. Your incense altars will be chopped down, and all your works wiped out.

Then I heard a holy one speaking. Another holy one asked the first one, the Wonderful Numberer, “How long will it be until this vision is fulfilled, in relation to the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the handing over of the sanctuary, and the trampling underfoot of the host of God’s people?”
