My spirit is broken, my days finished, my burial at hand.

Hasten to answer me, Lord; for my spirit fails me. Do not hide your face from me, lest I become like those descending to the pit.

Of David. To you, Lord, I call; my Rock, do not be deaf to me, Do not be silent toward me, so that I join those who go down to the pit.

To you, Lord, I cried out; with the Lord I pleaded for mercy:

To all my foes I am a thing of scorn, and especially to my neighbors a horror to my friends. When they see me in public, they quickly shy away.

He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, knowing pain, Like one from whom you turn your face, spurned, and we held him in no esteem.

He has sated me with bitterness, filled me with wormwood.

Then I will thrust you down with those who go down to the pit, to those of the bygone age; I will make you dwell in the netherworld, in the everlasting ruins, with those who have gone down to the pit, So you will never return or have a place in the land of the living.

The waters surged around me up to my neck; the deep enveloped me; seaweed wrapped around my head.

For Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly.

Indeed, we had accepted within ourselves the sentence of death, that we might trust not in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.

For indeed he was crucified out of weakness, but he lives by the power of God. So also we are weak in him, but toward you we shall live with him by the power of God.
