Therefore, I am bringing evil upon the house of Jeroboam: I will cut off from Jeroboam’s line every male —bond or free—in Israel; I will burn up what is left of the house of Jeroboam as dung is burned, completely.
Anyone of Jeroboam’s line who dies in the city, dogs will devour; anyone who dies in the field, the birds of the sky will devour. For the Lord has spoken!’
I will make your house like that of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha, son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me by leading Israel into sin.”
But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart, since he did not desist from the sins which Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
When he tore Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam, son of Nebat, king; but Jeroboam lured the Israelites away from the Lord, causing them to commit a great sin.
For this, says the Lord, I am sending you from the face of the earth; this very year you shall die, because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.
The high places of Aven will be destroyed, the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles will overgrow their altars. Then they will cry out to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall upon us!”
