With allprayerand petitionprayat alltimesin the Spirit,and with thisin view,be on the alertwith allperseveranceand petitionfor allthe saints,
praywithout ceasing;
May my prayerbe countedas incensebeforeYou; The liftingup of my handsas the eveningoffering.
NowPeterand Johnwere goingup to the templeat the ninth[hour], the hourof prayer.
In the daysof His flesh,He offeredup bothprayersand supplicationswith loudcryingand tearsto the One ableto saveHim from death,and He was heardbecauseof His piety.
On the next day,as they were on their wayand approachingthe city,Peterwentup on the housetopaboutthe sixthhourto pray.
In the early morning,whileit was stilldark,Jesus gotup, left [the house], and went awayto a secludedplace,and was prayingthere.
Now whenDanielknewthat the documentwas signed,he enteredhis house(now in his roofchamberhe had windowsopentowardJerusalem);and he continued kneelingon his kneesthreetimesa day,prayingand givingthanksbeforehis God,as he had been doingpreviously.
At midnightI shall riseto givethanksto You Becauseof Your righteousordinances.
To declareYour lovingkindnessin the morningAnd Your faithfulnessby night,
Corneliussaid,"Fourdaysagoto thishour,I was prayingin my houseduring the ninth hour;and behold,a manstoodbeforeme in shininggarments,
After bidding them farewell,He leftfor the mountainto pray.
But I, O LORD,have criedout to You for help,And in the morningmy prayercomesbeforeYou.
Aboutthe ninthhourof the dayhe clearlysawin a visionan angelof Godwho had [just] comein and saidto him, "Cornelius!"
Thenthey answeredand spokebeforethe king,"Daniel,whois one of the exilesfrom Judah,paysnoattentionto you, O king,or to the injunctionwhichyou signed,but keeps makinghis petitionthreetimesa day."
Seeingthem strainingat the oars,for the windwas againstthem, at aboutthe fourthwatchof the nightHe cameto them, walkingon the sea;and He intendedto passby them.
EvenwhenI cryout and callfor help,He shutsout my prayer.
"Behold,I cry,'Violence!'but I getnoanswer;I shoutfor help,but thereis nojustice.
For he will deliverthe needywhen he criesfor help,The afflictedalso, and him who hasnohelper.
In the dayof my troubleI soughtthe Lord;In the nightmy handwas stretchedout withoutweariness;My soulrefusedto be comforted.
