I passedby the fieldof the sluggardAnd by the vineyardof the manlackingsense,
"I will tellyou, listento me; And whatI have seenI will also declare;
"According to whatI have seen,those who plowiniquityAnd those who sowtroubleharvestit.
"Beholdthis;we have investigatedit, [and] soit is. Hearit, and knowfor yourself."
The uprightseeit and are glad;But allunrighteousnessshutsits mouth.
I have beenyoungand nowI am old,Yet I have not seenthe righteousforsakenOr his descendantsbeggingbread.
On the lipsof the discerning,wisdomis found,But a rodis for the backof him wholacksunderstanding.
He who tillshis landwill haveplentyof bread,But he who pursuesworthless[things] lackssense.
The soulof the sluggardcravesand [gets] nothing,But the soulof the diligentis madefat.
The one who commitsadulterywith a womanis lackingsense;He who would destroyhimselfdoesit.
Through indolencethe rafterssag,and through slacknessthe houseleaks.
I have seeneverythingduring my lifetimeof futility;thereis a righteousmanwho perishesin his righteousnessand thereis a wickedmanwho prolongs[his life] in his wickedness.
