"But ifhe did not liein wait[for him], but Godlet[him] fallinto his hand,then I will appointyou a placeto whichhe may flee.
then you shall selectfor yourselves citiesto be your citiesof refuge,that the manslayerwho has killedany personunintentionallymay fleethere.
Ifhe pushedhim of hatred,orthrewsomething at him lyingin waitand [as a result] he died,
orif he struckhim downwith his handin enmity,and [as a result] he died,the one who struckhim shall surelybe putto death,he is a murderer;the bloodavengershall putthe murdererto deathwhen he meetshim.
orwith anydeadlyobject of stone,and withoutseeingit droppedon him so that he died,while he was not his enemynorseekinghis injury,
as when[a man] goesinto the forestwith his friendto cutwood,and his handswingsthe axeto cutdownthe tree,and the iron[head] slipsoffthe handleand strikeshis friendso that he dies--he may fleeto oneof thesecitiesand live;
that the manslayerwho killsany personunintentionally,withoutpremeditation,may fleethere,and they shall becomeyour refugefrom the avengerof blood.
Now ifthe avengerof bloodpursueshim, then they shall not deliverthe manslayerinto his hand,becausehe struckhis neighborwithoutpremeditationand did not hatehim beforehand.
