"Behold,thesecausedthe sonsof Israel,through the counselof Balaam,to trespassagainst the LORDin the matterof Peor,so the plaguewas among the congregationof the LORD.
forsakingthe rightway,they have gone astray,having followedthe wayof Balaam,the [son] of Beor,wholovedthe wagesof unrighteousness;
But I havea few thingsagainstyou, becauseyou havetheresome who holdthe teachingof Balaam,whokept teachingBalakto puta stumbling blockbeforethe sonsof Israel,to eatthings sacrificed to idolsand to commit [acts of] immorality.
Is not the iniquityof Peorenoughfor us, from whichwe have not cleansedourselves to thisday,although a plaguecameon the congregationof the LORD,
"Your eyeshave seenwhatthe LORDhas donein the case of Baal-peor,for allthe menwhofollowedBaal-peor,the LORDyour Godhas destroyedthem from amongyou.
"And now,behold,I am goingto my people;come,[and] I will adviseyou whatthispeoplewill doto your peoplein the daysto come."
For a harlotis a deeppitAnd an adulterouswomanis a narrowwell.
for they have beenhostileto you with their tricks,with whichthey have deceivedyou in the affairof Peorand in the affairof Cozbi,the daughterof the leaderof Midian,their sisterwho was slainon the dayof the plaguebecauseof Peor."
And I discoveredmorebitterthandeaththe womanwhoseheartis snaresand nets,whose handsare chains.Onewhois pleasingto Godwill escapefrom her, but the sinnerwill be capturedby her.
Woeto them! For they have gonethe wayof Cain,and for paythey have rushed headlonginto the errorof Balaam,and perishedin the rebellionof Korah.
They killedthe kingsof Midianalongwith the [rest of] their slain:Eviand Rekemand Zurand Hurand Reba,the fivekingsof Midian;they also killedBalaamthe sonof Beorwith the sword.
