Thisis an evilin allthat is doneunderthe sun,that there is onefatefor allmen.Furthermore,the heartsof the sonsof menare fullof eviland insanityis in their heartsthroughout their lives.Afterwardsthey [go] to the dead.
But the personwhodoes[anything] defiantly,whetherhe is nativeor an alien,that oneis blasphemingthe LORD;and that personshall be cutofffrom amonghis people.
Balaamsaidto the angelof the LORD,"I have sinned,for I did not knowthat you were standingin the wayagainstme. Nowthen, ifit is displeasingto you, I will turnback."
"Oncethe head of the housegetsup and shutsthe door,and you beginto standoutsideand knockon the door,saying,Lord,openup to us!' thenHe will answerand sayto you, 'I do not knowwhereyou are from.'
"Then you saidto me, 'We have sinnedagainst the LORD;we will indeed goup and fight,justas the LORDour Godcommandedus.' And everymanof you girdedon his weaponsof war,and regardedit as easyto goup into the hillcountry.
"So I spoketo you, but you would not listen.Instead you rebelledagainstthe commandof the LORD,and actedpresumptuouslyand wentup into the hillcountry.
