But grumbledin their tents;They did not listento the voiceof the LORD.
In spite of allthisthey stillsinnedAnd did not believein His wonderfulworks.
Now when Pharaohhad letthe peoplego,Goddid not leadthem by the wayof the landof the Philistines,eventhoughit was near;for Godsaid,"The peoplemightchangetheir mindswhen they seewar,and returnto Egypt."
When the peopleheardthissadword,they wentinto mourning,and noneof them puton his ornaments.

Allthe sonsof IsraelgrumbledagainstMosesand Aaron;and the wholecongregationsaidto them, "Wouldthat we had diedin the landof Egypt!Orwouldthat we had diedin thiswilderness!
"Yet you were not willingto goup, but rebelledagainstthe commandof the LORDyour God;
"Then you returnedand weptbeforethe LORD;but the LORDdid not listento your voicenorgiveearto you.
"When the LORDsentyou from Kadesh-barnea,saying,Goup and possessthe landwhichI have givenyou,' then you rebelledagainstthe commandof the LORDyour God;you neitherbelievedHim norlistenedto His voice.
"Nevertheless my brethrenwhowentup with me made the heartof the peoplemeltwith fear;but I followedthe LORDmy Godfully.
Then Davidand the peoplewhowere with him liftedtheir voicesand weptuntiltherewas nostrengthin them to weep.
