are joiningwith their kinsmen,their nobles,and are takingon themselves a curseand an oathto walkin God'slaw,whichwas giventhroughMoses,God'sservant,and to keepand to observeallthe commandmentsof GODour Lord,and His ordinancesand His statutes;
On that daythey readaloud from the bookof Mosesin the hearingof the people;and there was foundwrittenin it that noAmmoniteor Moabiteshould everenterthe assemblyof God,
He readfrom the bookof the lawof Goddaily,from the firstdayto the lastday.And they celebratedthe feastsevendays,and on the eighthday[there was] a solemnassemblyaccording to the ordinance.
Then Nehemiah,whowas the governor,and Ezrathe priest[and] scribe,and the Leviteswho taughtthe peoplesaidto allthe people,"Thisdayis holyto the LORDyour God;do not mournor weep."For allthe peoplewere weepingwhen they heardthe wordsof the law.
Now on the twenty-fourthdayof thismonththe sonsof Israelassembledwith fasting,in sackclothand with dirtupon them.
"To whomwould He teachknowledge,And to whomwould He interpretthe message?Those [just] weanedfrom milk?Those [just] takenfrom the breast?
"Speakto the sonsof Israel,saying,In the seventhmonthon the firstof the monthyou shall havea rest,a reminderby blowing[of trumpets], a holyconvocation.
"For the lipsof a priestshould preserveknowledge,and men should seekinstructionfrom his mouth;for he is the messengerof the LORDof hosts.
Now in the seventhmonth,on the firstday of the month,you shall also havea holyconvocation;you shall donolaboriouswork.It will be to you a dayfor blowingtrumpets.
"For Mosesfrom ancientgenerationshasin everycitythosewho preachhim, since he is readin the synagogueseverySabbath."
"Now it shall comeabout when he sitson the throneof his kingdom,he shall writefor himself a copyof thislawon a scrollin the presenceof the Leviticalpriests.
There was not a wordof allthat Moseshad commandedwhichJoshuadid not readbeforeallthe assemblyof Israelwith the womenand the littleonesand the strangerswho were livingamongthem.
