Whenthe Lordhas washedawaythe filthof the daughtersof Zionand purgedthe bloodshedof Jerusalemfrom her midst,by the spiritof judgmentand the spiritof burning,
For I will pourout wateron the thirsty[land] And streamson the dryground;I will pourout My Spiriton your offspringAnd My blessingon your descendants;
"And I will bringthe thirdpartthrough the fire,Refinethem as silveris refined,And testthem as goldis tested.They will callon My name,And I will answerthem; I will say,They are My people,'And they will say,'The LORDis my God.'"
and they were being baptizedby him in the JordanRiver,as they confessedtheir sins.
Johnthe Baptistappearedin the wildernesspreachinga baptismof repentancefor the forgivenessof sins.
"It is he who will go[as a forerunner] beforeHim in the spiritand powerof Elijah,TO TURNTHE HEARTSOF THE FATHERSBACKTO THE CHILDREN,and the disobedientto the attitudeof the righteous,so as to make readya peoplepreparedfor the Lord."

And he cameinto allthe district aroundthe Jordan,preachinga baptismof repentancefor the forgivenessof sins;
JohntestifiedaboutHim and criedout, saying,"Thiswas He of whomI said,He who comesafterme hasa higher rankthan I, for He existedbeforeme.'"
"Thisis He on behalfof whomI said,Afterme comesa Manwhohasa higher rankthan I, for He existedbeforeme.'
for Johnbaptizedwith water,but you will be baptizedwith the HolySpiritnot manydaysfrom now."
Paulsaid,"Johnbaptizedwith the baptismof repentance,tellingthe peopleto believein Him who was comingafterhim, that is, in Jesus."
As they wentalongthe roadthey cameto somewater;and the eunuchsaid,"Look!Water!Whatpreventsme from being baptized?"
And he orderedthe chariotto stop;and they bothwent downinto the water,Philipas wellas the eunuch,and he baptizedhim.
For by oneSpiritwe were allbaptizedinto onebody,whetherJewsorGreeks,whetherslavesorfree,and we were allmade to drinkof oneSpirit.
To me, the very leastof allsaints,thisgracewas given,to preachto the Gentilesthe unfathomablerichesof Christ,
He savedus, not on the basisof deedswhichwe have donein righteousness,but accordingto His mercy,by the washingof regenerationand renewingby the HolySpirit,
You younger men,likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another,for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
