But when the young manheardthisstatement,he went awaygrieving;for he was one who ownedmuchproperty.
From menwith Your hand,O LORD,From menof the world,whose portionis in [this] life,And whose bellyYou fillwith Your treasure;They are satisfiedwith children,And leavetheir abundanceto their babes.
"They cometo you as peoplecome,and sitbeforeyou [as] My peopleand hearyour words,but they do not dothem, for they dothe lustfuldesires[expressed] by their mouth,[and] their heartgoesaftertheir gain.
"And the one on whom seed was sownamongthe thorns,thisis the man who hearsthe word,and the worryof the worldand the deceitfulnessof wealthchokethe word,and it becomesunfruitful.
Although he was grieved,the kingcommanded[it] to be givenbecauseof his oaths,and because of his dinner guests.
"For whatwill it profita manifhe gainsthe wholeworldand forfeitshis soul?Orwhatwill a mangivein exchangefor his soul?
Jesussaidto him, "Ifyou wishto be complete,go[and] sellyour possessionsand giveto [the] poor,and you will havetreasurein heaven;and come,followMe."
And Jesussaidto His disciples,"TrulyI sayto you, it is hardfor a rich manto enterthe kingdomof heaven.
"No onecanservetwomasters;for eitherhe will hatethe oneand lovethe other,orhe will be devotedto oneand despisethe other.You cannotserveGodand wealth.
But at thesewordshe was saddened,and he went awaygrieving,for he was one who ownedmuchproperty.
And although the kingwas very sorry,[yet] becauseof his oathsand because of his dinner guests,he was unwillingto refuseher.
But when he had heardthese things,he becamevery sad,for he was extremelyrich.
"Truly,truly,I sayto you, that you will weepand lament,but the worldwill rejoice;you will grieve,but your griefwill be turnedinto joy.
For thisyou knowwith certainty,that noimmoralorimpure personorcovetous man,whois an idolater,hasan inheritancein the kingdomof Christand God.
Thereforeconsiderthe membersof your earthlybody as deadto immorality,impurity,passion,evildesire,and greed,whichamountsto idolatry.
