"Nowour fleshis like the fleshof our brothers,our childrenlike their children.Yet behold,we are forcingour sonsand our daughtersto be slaves,and someof our daughtersare forcedinto bondage[already], and we are helplessbecause our fieldsand vineyardsbelong to others."
I saidto them, "We according to our abilityhave redeemedour Jewishbrotherswho were soldto the nations;now would you evensellyour brothersthat they may be soldto us?" Then they were silentand could not finda word[to say].
"Ifyou buya Hebrewslave,he shall servefor sixyears;but on the seventhhe shall goout as a freemanwithoutpayment.
"[But] ifthe sunhas risenon him, there will be bloodguiltinesson his account. He shall surelymakerestitution;ifhe owns nothing,then he shall be soldfor his theft.
Thussaysthe LORD,"Whereis the certificateof divorceBy whichI have sentyour motheraway?Orto whomof My creditorsdid I sellyou? Behold,you were soldfor your iniquities,And for your transgressionsyour motherwas sentaway.
Ifa countrymanof yours becomesso poorwith regardto you that he sellshimself to you, you shall not subjecthim to a slave'sservice.
"When he had begunto settle[them], onewho owedhim ten thousandtalentswas broughtto him.
"When they were unableto repay,he graciously forgavethem both.Sowhichof them will lovehim more?"
