and had seenthat someof His discipleswere eatingtheir breadwith impurehands, that is, unwashed.
"Whydo Your disciplesbreak the traditionof the elders? For they do not washtheir handswhenthey eatbread."
The Phariseesand the scribesaskedHim, "Whydo Your disciplesnot walkaccordingto the traditionof the elders, but eattheir breadwith impurehands?"
When the Phariseesawit, he was surprisedthat He had not firstceremonially washedbeforethe meal.
And he saidto them, "You yourselvesknowhowunlawfulit is for a manwho is a Jewto associatewith a foreignerorto visithim; and [yet] Godhas shownme that I should not callanymanunholyorunclean.
"But I said,'By no means,Lord, for nothingunholyoruncleanhas everenteredmy mouth.'
I knowand am convincedin the LordJesusthat nothingis uncleanin itself;but to him who thinksanythingto be unclean,to him it is unclean.
How muchsevererpunishmentdo you thinkhe will deservewho has trampled under footthe Sonof God,and has regardedas uncleanthe bloodof the covenantby whichhe was sanctified, and has insultedthe Spiritof grace?
and nothingunclean, and noone who practicesabominationand lying, shall evercomeinto it, but onlythosewhose names are writtenin the Lamb'sbookof life.
