And KingHerodheard[of it], for His namehad becomewell known;and [people] were saying,"Johnthe Baptisthas risenfrom the dead,and that is whythesemiraculous powersare at workin Him."
In Jerusalemhe madeengines[of war] inventedby skillfulmen to be on the towersand on the cornersfor the purpose of shootingarrowsand greatstones.Hence his famespreadafar,for he was marvelouslyhelpeduntilhe [was] strong.
The Ammonitesalso gavetributeto Uzziah,and his fameextendedto the borderof Egypt,for he becameverystrong.
But they wentout and spread the newsabout Him throughoutallthat land.
Immediatelythe newsabout Him spreadeverywhereinto allthe surrounding districtof Galilee.
But he wentout and beganto proclaimit freelyand to spreadthe newsaround,to such an extentthat Jesus couldno longerpubliclyentera city,but stayedout in unpopulatedareas;and they were comingto Him from everywhere.
They toldHim, saying,"Johnthe Baptist;and others[say] Elijah;but others,oneof the prophets."
Justat that timesomePhariseesapproached,sayingto Him, "Go away,leavehere,for Herodwantsto killYou."
Nowin the fifteenthyearof the reignof TiberiusCaesar,when PontiusPilatewas governorof Judea,and Herodwas tetrarchof Galilee,and his brotherPhilipwas tetrarchof the regionof Ituraeaand Trachonitis,and Lysaniaswas tetrarchof Abilene,
ThisreportconcerningHim wentout alloverJudeaand in allthe surrounding district.
They answeredand said,"Johnthe Baptist,and others[say] Elijah;but others,that oneof the prophetsof oldhas risen again."
For the wordof the Lordhas sounded forthfrom you, not onlyin Macedoniaand Achaia,but also in everyplaceyour faithtowardGodhas gone forth,sothat we havenoneedto sayanything.
Godalso testifyingwith them, bothby signsand wondersand by variousmiraclesand by giftsof the HolySpiritaccordingto His own will.
