Nowwhen the Phariseewho had invitedHim sawthis, he saidto himself,"Ifthis manwere a prophetHe would knowwhoand what sort of personthiswomanis whois touchingHim, that she is a sinner."
But Gehazi,the servantof Elishathe manof God,thought,"Behold,my masterhas sparedthisNaamanthe Aramean,by not receivingfrom his handswhathe brought.As the LORDlives,I will runafterhim and takesomethingfrom him."
For as he thinkswithin himself,sohe is. He saysto you, "Eatand drink!"But his heartis not with you.
"Who say,Keepto yourself, do not comenearme, For I am holierthan you!' Theseare smokein My nostrils,A firethat burnsallthe day.
"Sothe lastshall be first,and the firstlast."
And the crowdswere saying,"Thisis the prophetJesus,from Nazarethin Galilee."
"For from within,out of the heartof men,proceedthe evilthoughts,fornications,thefts,murders,adulteries,
"And he began reasoningto himself,saying,'Whatshall I do,sinceI havenoplaceto storemy crops?'
Boththe Phariseesand the scribes[began] to grumble,saying,"This manreceivessinnersand eatswith them."
"The managersaidto himself,'Whatshall I do,sincemy masteris takingthe managementawayfrom me? I am not strong enoughto dig;I am ashamedto beg.
"For a whilehe was unwilling;but afterwardhe saidto himself,'EventhoughI do not fearGodnorrespectman,
"Thereforebearfruitsin keepingwith repentance,and do not beginto sayto yourselves,We haveAbrahamfor our father,'for I sayto you that from thesestonesGodis ableto raiseup childrento Abraham.
Feargrippedthem all,and they [began] glorifyingGod,saying,"A greatprophethas arisenamongus!" and, "Godhas visitedHis people!"
And there was a womanin the citywhowas a sinner;and when she learnedthat He was reclining[at the table] in the Pharisee'shouse,she broughtan alabaster vialof perfume,
and standingbehind[Him] at His feet,weeping,she beganto wetHis feetwith her tears,and kept wipingthem with the hairof her head,and kissingHis feetand anointingthem with the perfume.
And Jesusansweredhim, "Simon,I havesomethingto sayto you." And he replied,"Sayit, Teacher."
The womansaidto Him, "Sir,I perceivethat You are a prophet.
There was muchgrumblingamongthe crowdsconcerningHim; somewere saying,"He is a good man";otherswere saying,"No,on the contrary,He leadsthe peopleastray."
Soa second timethey calledthe manwhohad beenblind,and saidto him, "Givegloryto God;we knowthat thismanis a sinner."
