Liketangledthorns,And like those who are drunkenwith their drink,They are consumedAs stubblecompletelywithered.
He who increaseshis wealthby interestand usuryGathersit for him who is graciousto the poor.
Richesdo not profitin the dayof wrath,But righteousnessdeliversfrom death.
Before they had satisfiedtheir desire,Whiletheir foodwas in their mouths,
Then Hamanrecountedto them the gloryof his riches,and the numberof his sons,and every[instance] wherethe kinghad magnifiedhim and howhe had promotedhim abovethe princesand servantsof the king.
For he sees[that even] wisemendie;The stupidand the senselessalikeperishAnd leavetheir wealthto others.
Ill-gottengainsdo not profit,But righteousnessdeliversfrom death.
Thereis one who pretendsto be rich,but hasnothing;[Another] pretendsto be poor,but has greatwealth.
Do not boastabout tomorrow,For you do not knowwhata daymay bringforth.
"Come,"[they say], "let us getwine,and let us drinkheavilyof strongdrink;And tomorrowwill be like today,only moreso."
You who rejoicein Lodebar,And say,"Have we not by our [own] strengthtakenKarnaimfor ourselves?"
Instructthosewho are richin thispresentworldnot to be conceitedorto fix their hopeon the uncertaintyof riches,but on God,who richlysuppliesus with all thingsto enjoy.
