"Soyou are witnessesand approvethe deedsof your fathers;becauseit was they who killedthem, and you build[their tombs].
but they [continually] mockedthe messengersof God,despisedHis wordsand scoffedat His prophets,untilthe wrathof the LORDaroseagainst His people,untiltherewas noremedy.
"Your own mouthcondemnsyou, and not I; And your own lipstestifyagainst you.
So they will make him stumble;Their own tongueis againstthem; Allwho seethem will shakethe head.
"Yet you say,Whyshould the sonnot bearthe punishmentfor the father'siniquity?'When the sonhas practicedjusticeand righteousnessand has observedallMy statutesand donethem, he shall surelylive.
"Woeto you, scribesand Pharisees,hypocrites!For you are likewhitewashedtombswhichon the outsideappearbeautiful,but insidethey are fullof dead men'sbonesand alluncleanness.
"Soyou testifyagainst yourselves,that you are sonsof thosewho murderedthe prophets.
"Woeto you! For you buildthe tombsof the prophets,and [it was] your fathers[who] killedthem.
"For thisreasonalsothe wisdomof Godsaid,I will sendto them prophetsand apostles,and [some] of them they will killand [some] they will persecute,
and although they knowthe ordinanceof God,that thosewho practicesuch thingsare worthyof death,they not onlydothe same,but alsogive hearty approvalto thosewho practicethem.
As an example,brethren,of sufferingand patience,takethe prophetswhospokein the nameof the Lord.
Joshuasaidto the people,"You are witnessesagainst yourselves that you have chosenfor yourselves the LORD,to serveHim." And they said,"We are witnesses."
