For sixdaysworkmay be done,but on the seventhdaythere is a sabbathof completerest,a holyconvocation.You shall not doanywork;it is a sabbathto the LORDin allyour dwellings.
then he saidto them, "Thisis whatthe LORDmeant:Tomorrowis a sabbathobservance,a holysabbathto the LORD.Bakewhatyou will bakeand boilwhatyou will boil,and allthat is leftoverputasideto be keptuntilmorning."
"See,the LORDhas givenyou the sabbath;thereforeHe givesyou breadfor two dayson the sixthday.Remaineverymanin his place;let nomangoout of his placeon the seventhday."
So the peoplerestedon the seventhday.
"Sixdaysyou are to doyour work,but on the seventhdayyou shall cease[from labor] sothat your oxand your donkeymay rest,and the sonof your femaleslave,as well as your stranger,may refreshthemselves.
"You shall worksixdays,but on the seventhdayyou shall rest;[even] during plowingtimeand harvestyou shall rest.
"How blessedis the manwho doesthis,And the sonof manwho takesholdof it; Who keepsfrom profaningthe sabbath,And keepshis handfrom doinganyevil."
"Also the foreignerswho jointhemselves to the LORD,To ministerto Him, and to lovethe nameof the LORD,To be His servants,everyonewho keepsfrom profaningthe sabbathAnd holdsfastMy covenant;
"Ifbecauseof the sabbath,you turnyour footFrom doingyour [own] pleasureon My holyday,And callthe sabbatha delight,the holy[day] of the LORDhonorable,And honorit, desistingfrom your [own] ways,From seekingyour [own] pleasureAnd speaking[your own] word,
Everyoneof you shall reverencehis motherand his father,and you shall keepMy sabbaths;I am the LORDyour God.
But the synagogue official,indignantbecauseJesushad healedon the Sabbath,[began] sayingto the crowdin response,"There are sixdaysin whichworkshouldbe done;socomeduringthem and get healed,and not on the Sabbathday."
Thenthey returnedand preparedspicesand perfumes.And on the Sabbaththey restedaccordingto the commandment.
"For Mosesfrom ancientgenerationshasin everycitythosewho preachhim, since he is readin the synagogueseverySabbath."
