But Gideonsaidto them, "I will not ruleover you, norshall my sonruleover you; the LORDshall ruleover you."
The LORDis Kingforeverand ever;Nationshave perishedfrom His land.
Let Israelbe gladin his Maker;Let the sonsof Zionrejoicein their King.
For the LORDis our judge,The LORDis our lawgiver,The LORDis our king;He will saveus--
We have become[like] those over whom You have neverruled,[Like] those who were not calledby Your name.
Not that we lord it overyour faith,but are workerswith you for your joy;for in your faithyou are standing firm.
noryet as lording it overthoseallotted to your charge,but provingto be examplesto the flock.
The people,the leadersof Gilead,saidto oneanother,"Whois the manwhowill beginto fightagainst the sonsof Ammon?He shall becomeheadover allthe inhabitantsof Gilead."
Whenthe LORDraisedup judgesfor them, the LORDwas with the judgeand deliveredthem from the handof their enemiesallthe daysof the judge;for the LORDwas movedto pityby their groaningbecauseof those who oppressedand afflictedthem.
Then the menof Israelsaidto Gideon,"Ruleover us, bothyou and your son,alsoyour son'sson,for you have deliveredus from the handof Midian."
"But you have todayrejectedyour God,whodeliversyou from allyour calamitiesand your distresses;yet you have said,'No,but seta kingoverus!' Nowtherefore, presentyourselves beforethe LORDby your tribesand by your clans."
"When you sawthat Nahashthe kingof the sonsof Ammoncameagainstyou, you saidto me, 'No,but a kingshall reignoverus,' although the LORDyour God[was] your king.
