Then the LORDsaidto Gideon,"The peopleare stilltoo many;bringthem downto the waterand I will testthem for you there.Therefore it shall be that he of whomI sayto you, 'Thisoneshall gowith you,' he shall gowith you; but everyoneof whomI sayto you, 'Thisoneshall not gowith you,' he shall not go."
Now it cameabout afterthesethings,that GodtestedAbraham,and saidto him, "Abraham!"And he said,"HereI am."
"But He knowsthe wayI take;[When] He has triedme, I shall comeforthas gold.
The kingis not savedby a mightyarmy;A warrioris not deliveredby greatstrength.
For You have triedus, O God;You have refinedus as silveris refined.
Olet the evilof the wickedcometo an end,but establishthe righteous;For the righteousGodtriesthe heartsand minds.
So he broughtthe peopledownto the water.And the LORDsaidto Gideon,"You shall separateeveryonewholapsthe waterwith his tongueas a doglaps,as well as everyonewhokneelsto drink."
Then Jonathansaidto the youngmanwho was carryinghis armor,"Comeand let us crossoverto the garrisonof theseuncircumcised;perhapsthe LORDwill workfor us, for the LORDis not restrainedto saveby manyorby few."
But the LORDsaidto Samuel,"Do not lookat his appearanceor at the heightof his stature,becauseI have rejectedhim; for God[sees] not as mansees,for manlooksat the outwardappearance,but the LORDlooksat the heart."
