I will inclinemy earto a proverb;I will expressmy riddleon the harp.
I will openmy mouthin a parable;I will utterdarksayingsof old,
To understanda proverband a figure,The wordsof the wiseand their riddles.
Then I said,"AhLordGOD!They are sayingof me, 'Is he not [just] speakingparables?'"
And He saidto them, "Do you not understandthisparable?Howwill you understandallthe parables?
and He did not speakto them withouta parable;but He was explainingeverythingprivatelyto His owndisciples.
And He was statingthe matterplainly.And Petertook Him asideand beganto rebukeHim.
The Jewsthengathered aroundHim, and were sayingto Him, "How longwill You keepus in suspense?IfYou are the Christ,tellus plainly."
Thisfigure of speechJesusspoketo them, but they did not understandwhatthose things were whichHe had been sayingto them.
"I havemanymorethingsto sayto you, but you cannotbear[them] now.
"They will makeyou outcasts from the synagogue,but an houris comingfor everyonewho killsyou to thinkthat he is offeringserviceto God.
"Behold,an houris coming,and has [already] come,for you to be scattered,eachto his own[home], and to leaveMe alone;and [yet] I amnot alone,becausethe Fatheris with Me.
but we have renouncedthe things hiddenbecause of shame,not walkingin craftinessoradulteratingthe wordof God,but by the manifestationof truthcommendingourselvesto everyman'sconsciencein the sightof God.
