But ifyou will not goout to the officersof the kingof Babylon,then thiscitywill be givenover to the handof the Chaldeans;and they will burnit with fire,and you yourselfwill not escapefrom their hand.'"
Jehoiachinthe kingof Judahwentout to the kingof Babylon,he and his motherand his servantsand his captainsand his officials.So the kingof Babylontookhim captive in the eighthyearof his reign.
"For I have setMy faceagainst thiscityfor harmand not for good,"declaresthe LORD."It will be giveninto the handof the kingof Babylonand he will burnit with fire."'
"It will be, [that] the nationor the kingdomwhichwill not servehim, Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylon,and whichwill not putits neckunder the yokeof the kingof Babylon,I will punishthat nationwith the sword,with famineand with pestilence,"declaresthe LORD,"untilI have destroyedit by his hand.
"The Chaldeanswill also returnand fightagainstthiscity,and they will captureit and burnit with fire."'
They will also bringout allyour wivesand your sonsto the Chaldeans,and you yourselfwill not escapefrom their hand,but will be seizedby the handof the kingof Babylon,and thiscitywill be burnedwith fire.'"
"Thussaysthe LORD,'Thiscitywill certainlybe giveninto the handof the armyof the kingof Babylonand he will captureit.'"
Then allthe officialsof the kingof Babyloncamein and satdownat the MiddleGate:Nergal-sar-ezer,Samgar-nebu,Sar-sekimthe Rab-saris,Nergal-sar-ezer[the] Rab-mag,and allthe restof the officialsof the kingof Babylon.
The Chaldeansalso burnedwith firethe king'spalaceand the housesof the people,and they brokedownthe wallsof Jerusalem.
"I will also spreadMy netoverhim, and he will be caughtin My snare.And I will bringhim to Babylonin the landof the Chaldeans;yet he will not seeit, though he will diethere.
But he rebelledagainst him by sendinghis envoysto Egyptthat they might givehim horsesand manytroops.Will he succeed?Will he who doessuchthingsescape?Can he indeed breakthe covenantand escape?
