Then the priestsand the prophetsspoketo the officialsand to allthe people,saying,"A deathsentencefor thisman!For he has prophesiedagainstthiscityas you have heardin your hearing."
Yet You, O LORD,knowAlltheir deadlydesignsagainstme; Do not forgivetheir iniquityOr blotout their sinfrom Your sight.But may they be overthrownbeforeYou; Dealwith them in the timeof Your anger!
Then the officialsand allthe peoplesaidto the priestsand to the prophets,"Nodeathsentencefor thisman!For he has spokento us in the nameof the LORDour God."
Then the officialssaidto the king,"Nowlet thismanbe putto death,inasmuchas he is discouragingthe menof warwho are leftin thiscityand allthe people,by speakingsuchwordsto them; for thismanis not seekingthe well-beingof thispeoplebut rathertheir harm."
whatdo you think?"They answered,"He deservesdeath!"
They answeredand saidto him, "Ifthis Manwere not an evildoer,we would not have deliveredHim to you."
The Jewsansweredhim, "We havea law,and by that lawHe oughtto diebecauseHe madeHimselfout [to] [be] the Sonof God."
They listenedto him up to thisstatement,and [then] they raisedtheir voicesand said,"Awaywith such a fellowfrom the earth,for he should not be allowedto live!"
But the prophetwhospeaksa wordpresumptuouslyin My namewhichI have not commandedhim to speak,or whichhe speaksin the nameof othergods,that prophetshall die.'
Then the menof the citysaidto Joash,"Bringout your son,that he may die,for he has torndownthe altarof Baal,and indeed,he has cutdownthe Asherahwhichwas besideit."
