Then the kingof AssyriasentTartanand Rab-sarisand Rabshakehfrom Lachishto KingHezekiahwith a largearmyto Jerusalem.So they wentup and cameto Jerusalem.And when they wentup, they cameand stoodby the conduitof the upperpool,whichis on the highwayof the fuller'sfield.
He trustedin the LORD,the Godof Israel;so that afterhim there was nonelikehim among allthe kingsof Judah,nor[among those] whowere beforehim.
"Thusyou shall sayto Hezekiahkingof Judah,Do not let your Godin whomyou trustdeceiveyou saying,"Jerusalemwill not be giveninto the handof the kingof Assyria."
As a shatteringof my bones,my adversariesrevileme, While they sayto me alldaylong, "Whereis your God?"
My tearshave beenmy fooddayand night,While [they] sayto me alldaylong, "Whereis your God?"
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
"Howcan you say,We are mightywarriors,And menvaliantfor battle'?
"The kingreflectedand said,'Is thisnot Babylonthe great,whichI myselfhave builtas a royalresidenceby the mightof my powerand for the gloryof my majesty?'
Theseare grumblers,finding fault,followingaftertheir [own] lusts;they speakarrogantly,flatteringpeoplefor the sakeof [gaining an] advantage.
